VOTR Podcast Episode 1: Allison Galbraith Interview and Trump v FBI

I am thrilled to present the inaugural episode of the Voices of the Resistance podcast! Putting our first episode together was a great experience (and a learning experience) and I hope you enjoy it. Let us know what you think!

We have submitted the podcast to iTunes and will let everyone know once it has been approved and made available through the iTunes store.

More to come!

An Anniversary Announcement

When I first launched Voices of the Resistance just over a year ago, I did so with the goal of giving an outlet to people who care about this country and want to stand up to the Trump administration and its harmful agenda. In the last 12 months, we have hosted some excellent pieces from an array of talented authors, and I am thrilled with how the site has evolved.

That evolution will continue in 2018, first with a website redesign and new logo (courtesy of the incredibly talented Jillian Elder) and then with the debut of the Voices of the Resistance podcast.

Each week, our podcast will see us discuss current events, share critical information about activism and getting out the vote, and highlight candidates who are working to make the 2018 Blue Wave a reality. I'll be joined by my co-host, Wes Cianchette, as well as by other VOTR contributors.

Our first show will be recording at the end of January and releasing in the first days of February. I'm ecstatic to announce that our debut episode will feature an interview with Allison Galbraith, who is running to unseat Republican Andy Harris in Maryland's first district!

More details to come in the next few weeks! Stay tuned here and, if you haven't already, please follow us on twitter @VoicesResist.

Finally

It’s 2017, and I’m finally seeing men being held accountable for their actions. I’m finally seeing men who have been so used to blatantly disrespecting, harassing, and fettering women to positions of submission being punished, or at the least, finally being told that their actions have no place in today’s workplace. A line in the sand is finally being drawn in 2017, with men in positions of power across the spectrum of industry, political affiliation, and hierarchy being told “enough is enough” and “we won’t stand for this anymore.”

A Line in the Sand

In the past year, the "Silence Breakers" and the #MeToo movement have established a new paradigm in American society. The brave women who have spoken out were collectively named the Time Person of the Year this week, and with good reason. Countless examples of sexual misconduct and harassment have been brought into the daylight for the first time, and the country is finally having a critical national dialogue about how women are treated in the workplace, the home, and society in general.

The Chief Embarassment

In an ideal world, the Presidency of the United States should be held by someone who reflects all that is great about our country: our freedoms, our cherished beliefs, and our diversity. The president should be someone who is, if not liked, at least respected by every other nation as a person who is both capable and deserving of his or her position as the leader of a top global superpower.

Our current president is Donald Trump. Clearly, this is not an ideal world.

Roy Moore and Today's GOP

Before we delve into the allegations against Roy Moore, I want to make on thing clear: even before all of the recent news came to light, it should have been obvious to everyone that he had no place anywhere near the United States Senate.

This is a man who was removed from his role on the Alabama Supreme Court twice for failing to comply with rulings from higher courts. He was a leading voice in the birther movement. He said that Keith Ellison should not be seated in the House of Representatives because he is Muslim. He claimed that national tragedies like 9/11 and Sandy Hook were God's punishment for the nation becoming less religious and giving equal rights to LGBT citizens. He has refused to debate Doug Jones, his opponent in the upcoming Senate election, due to his opponent's "very liberal stance on transgenderism."

One Year Later, The Resistance Strikes Back

To say it has been a rough year would be a grand understatement. And yet, to the unending credit of the citizens of this country, you did not let the election of a spiteful con man crush you. Millions of you participated in marches and rallies. You made countless phone calls and held numerous protests, putting enough pressure on Trump and his party that their attempts at repealing the Affordable Care Act failed spectacularly. And every time you suffered a defeat, you used it as motivation to come back and fight harder.
